Overview

A draft Operational Policy 1.12 – Planning Proposals Adjoining Regional Roads in Western Australia (the draft) is now open for public comment.

The draft updates the Development control policy 1.7-General road planning (June 1998) and the Development control policy 5.1 Regional roads vehicular access (June 1998) and aims to provide decision makers, proponents, and the community with a consistent policy approach to land use planning for proposals adjoining regional roads in Western Australia.

  • plain language text and links to current reference documents
  • refined wording of policy objectives
  • an explanation of the implementation of the policy through the planning application process and planning instruments that this policy applies to
  • acknowledgement of responsibilities that apply to the WAPC, Main Roads and local government
  • guidance where regional road reserve is given up free of cost and where it is set aside for future acquisition
  • guidance for driveway and alternative vehicle access to regional roads, road reserve widening, construction and upgrading of regional roads
  • clarification where construction works and related improvements to regional roads are required
  • specification of dimensions for regional road truncations.

What happens next
