Overview

A significant development application for a new hydrogen generation facility and expansion of the existing solar farm in Muluckine near Northam has been received by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) under Part 11B of the Planning and Development Act 2005.

The application proposes a new hydrogen generation facility to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis. The proposed output capacity is four tonnes per day using energy from renewable sources including the expansion of the existing solar farm on the development site at Lots 6, 7, 9 and 44 Northam-York Road, Muluckine.

The development consists of the following elements:

  • A new hydrogen generation facility is proposed on Lot 7.
  • The expansion of the existing solar farm is proposed on Lots 6 and 7.
  • Access to the site is via an upgrade to the existing crossover on Northam-York Road.

The application from Planning Solutions on behalf of Infinite Green Energy Pty Ltd is required to be advertised to seek public comments and is open until 27 February 2025.

The development is valued at $120 million.
