The Western Australian Planning Commission has received a development application (REF #21-51070-1) for retrospective approval under the Swan Valley Planning Scheme No.1. The application proposes locating two sea containers adjacent to the southern side lot boundary of Lot 16 (No.496) Great Northern Highway, Middle Swan.
Sea container 1 is located closest to the front lot boundary and measures 6.058 x 2.438metres. The container is used as an office and for storage. It is set back 6.5metres to the southern side lot boundary in lieu of the permitted 15metres.
Sea container 2, measuring 12.159 x 2.438metres, is located behind the distillery building. The container will be used for general storage. It is set back 4.1metres to the southern side lot boundary in lieu of the permitted 15metres.
The application is being advertised to adjoining landowners as the setbacks of the sea containers do not meet the permitted setbacks for development in the Priority Agriculture zone under the Swan Valley Planning Scheme No.1, and the sea containers are visible from Great Northern Highway.
The application is open for comment until 11 August 2026.
