P4626 Woodman Point Munitions Reserve (fmr)
Overview
The Heritage Council of Western Australia is currently considering whether to amend the existing State Registered place, Woodman Point Munitions Magazines (fmr), which includes three former munitions storage buildings, to become Woodman Point Munitions Reserve (fmr) which takes in the whole of the former munitions site.
Woodman Point Munitions Reserve was a major munitions storage complex. It served this purpose for 80 years, including during two key phases in Western Australia’s history – to support the growing state mining industry c.1900 and WWII. The expansion to the existing registered place will encompass the wider reserve containing remnants of 30 additional munitions storage facilities and other elements linked to the use of the site, including the munitions jetty. The amendment will see the inclusion of an additional 105 hectares of the reserve.
The amended registration aims to better tell this important story in Western Australia’s history.
